When the Gen 2 MINI was released it made quite a stir in the MINI community and a lot of Gen1 MINI owners really liked that the Cooper S model had a black mesh grill from the factory and the Cooper had a chrome horizontal slat grill, while the Gen1 MINI Cooper S had virtually the same grill as the Cooper but had body colored horizontal slats. The Gen2 MINI further separated the look of the models by using the black mesh grill on the Cooper S which was a more sporty look and the Chrome grill on the Cooper was a more traditional look.

For years the only grill on the market for the Gen1 worth considering was the factory Aero grill from the Aero body kit. While it is still a great option, the lower grill is a total pain to install. It remains one of our best selling products but each and every one of those lower grills was painstakingly modified to fit which is a bit of task and some people are just not interested or capable which is why this is great grill to consider if you want to ditch your standard Gen 1 Cooper or Cooper S grills.

This is a great option for those that want a simple install and also want a slightly more modern look. The pattern on this grill is very similar to the elongated mesh pattern on the Gen2 JCW grill which is a nice look. This grill set does NOT require the extensive modification to the lower grill and is pretty simple to install. The finish is a gloss black and the material is a rigid injection molded plastic. Sold as 2 grills. The large grill in the bonnet/hood and the long skinny grill on the front edge of the bumper.

Install notes:
The 'nuts' used on the upper grill need to be pried off with a screwdriver while twisting with a socket wrench. Once removed the new grill goes in the same way BUT you will need to press the new 'nuts' (you can barely call them nuts as they are stamped metal!!!) while pushing and twisting to create new threads on the plastic posts. I have found it is best to stack a extra nut in the socket to keep the top nut close to the top of the socket so you can get the threads to start... The bottom grill is simple. Gently pry off the lower chrome trim with a putty knife starting on the far edge. Lift it up just enough to get your hand in there and pull the whole thing off. There are no mechanical fasteners holding it in place. To get the horizontal strip off go in from the side with a screwdriver and pry it off. Once free you will need to remove the double stick adhesive as you will see some of the raw bumper area through the holes in the new lower grill.
